The Edmonton Oilers will have to make a decision on who they’ll start the season with at forward when the NHL Expansion Draft begins Thursday.
General manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed that Jones and Lindgren will be the top two options for the Oilers, but he doesn’t rule out the possibility that the Oilers could go with a third player in the Expansion Draft.
The Oilers’ top-three center prospect, Alex Ovechkin, and third-round pick Alex Tuch will be with the team when it begins its three-game road trip Friday and Saturday.
The Expansion Draft is expected to be the biggest free-agent splash the Oilers have made this offseason.
Chiarello said he’ll be able to fill three spots on the team’s roster with players who are either under contract or on restricted free-agency lists.
